Tom Pitt b.1980

Tom paints places, objects, or things he categorises as somewhere between place and object. They are the starting point for a process of improvisation and meditation.

Subject matter comes to Tom slowly - places he’s walked by hundreds of times or a photo that he may have put aside years ago can suddenly make sense as part of his practice.

Tom works on board as it allows him to sand and scrape back paint. This erasing and reworking has become an important part of Tom’s process, where the marks left can inform or be incorporated into a new layer.
